I have a message window with a 'puzzle-piece' icon containing a camera and "Failed to connect to the device. -Check the I/F cable connection between the device and your computer. - Please turn OFF the device once, and then turn ON the device again. Then try again. [MTW005]" and the OK button.
This window is on top of everything on my desktop and the OK button will not function. I've turned the system OFF/ON several times but it persists.
My system: iMac (iLamp) 20", 1.25 GHz PPC G4, 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM, OS X 10.4.11. There are no camera's connected other than iSight. I DO NOT KNOW what an I/F cable is???
Thank you,
Brian

I/F in this case, means InterFace cable. That's the cable which connects to your iSight camera. So, unplug your camera. Restart your Mac, and that would clear that message. Plug your camera back in, and check that message is now gone...
If you get the message again - is your iSight camera working at all?
If not, then that camera is bad, or your FireWire port could be faulty, and you could try the other FireWire port on your Mac.
Let me know what you find out....

Dale, Thanks for the very prompt reply. iSight is now disconnected from my iMac but I still have the problem / message and the 'OK' button doesn't make any difference. I've had to drag the msg. window to the extreme edge of my screen to be able to ignore it. I've discovered the icon in the msg. window is the 'Image Capture' application icon. Since I'm not using iChat, I'm considering moving the application to the trash in hopes of getting rid of the message. What do you think?
Regards,
Brian

Go to your System Preferences/Accounts. Then to Login Items tab. Delete either iChat or Image Capture from the list. Don't just remove the check, but select the item, then click the (-) at the bottom of that item list. That should take care of the problem now. Restart your Mac to make sure.

Dale,
Unfortunately, neither iChat nor Image Capture were listed in the Login window. Any other suggestions?

Then you will need to do some 'sleuthing' to find the culprit.
Your system logs in console may help you out. You may be able to tell what process is issuing that error window. Also, Activity monitor can help you see what is doing this. You can try creating a new user, then login as that user to see if it's system-wide (all users are affected), or just your user.
Do you have any idea when this started - for example, after the last software update, but did not happen before?
Have you installed some new software, or is there anything else that you can remember that could call up your camera, and that you have recently used, such as a system crash while you were using iChat?

Dale, I wish to thank you for your several attempts at helping me 'fix' this problem. I hate to admit it but, I had a power failure today while out playing golf. My UPS was beeping when I got home and I turned it off. A couple hours later I turned the system back on and... you guessed it. EVERYTHING IS FINE. My problem is now gone but I have no idea why. Anyway, I guess we can close this ticket.
Again, thank you, Brian
