Somehow I have really messed up my widgets. It happened after I updated to 10.4.2. I have some Apple widgets that are disabled (they are labeled such in the Library folder) but are not listed on the Widget Manager that came with the update so I can't un-disable them! Any ideas how to go about fixing this problem? Judy

How did you go about disabling them in the first place? Use that tool to re-enable them. Alternatively, move them from the "disabled" folder into the standard folder.

I know it should be that easy but I think the problem is that before the 10.4.2 update I downloaded a widget to manage the widgets. Then I updated. So now my disabled widgets are in a folder- one folder that says Calculator but there is no recognizable Calculator icon. This is what is in the Calculator disabled folder:Calculator.css
Calculator.html
Calculator.js
DB LCD Temp-Black.ttf
Default.png
English.lproj
Icon.png
Images
Info.plist
version.plist
To further clarify: the disabled widgets are in the same folder as the widgets that are working. This is what is in the Library folder on my hard drive:
Address Book.wdgt
Calculator.wdgt.disabled
Calendar.wdgt.disabled
Dictionary.wdgt
Flight Tracker.wdgt
Flight Tracker.wdgt.disabled
iTunes.wdgt
Phone Book.wdgt
Stickies.wdgt.disabled
Stocks.wdgt
Stocks.wdgt.disabled
Tile Game.wdgt.disabled
Translation.wdgt.disabled
Unit Converter.wdgt
Unit Converter.wdgt.disabled
Weather.wdgt
World Clock.wdgt
World Clock.wdgt.disabled
The ones that are listed as disabled that I can't move from the Dashboard to the desktop are Unit Converter, Flight Tracker & World Clock. The other disabled ones are not even listed in the Widget Manager. Judy

You will need to use that same widget manager to re-enable the disabled widgets. Once you do that you can then control them via Tiger widget manager.
I would try moving the widgets with the ".disabled" names to a separate folder and move that folder out of the Widgets folder.
BTW, are these all in the /Library/Widgets/ folder or in the /Home/Library/Widgets/ folder?
It's possible that all the old widget manager did was to add the ".disabled" to the widget file name. If that's the case, then you can re-enable those by simply renaming them to "widgetname.wdgt".

Well, I have made progress!!! Yes! And I must say I am proud of myself. The original widget manager had some info on the backside that explained what was causing the problem I was experiencing and to fix it I made myself the root user and got them all working! The only issue I have now is that 3 of them are still black icons and cannot be moved to the Dashboard. I am going to repair permissions and see if that helps. If you have any idea why they are still black and how to fix this issue, I would be interested to hear your solution. It was your comment about using the same widget manager to re-enable them that got me on the right track. First I had to download the same widget manager..... Thanks for that little tidbit!! Judy

Judy,
I don't know what the problem is with those remaining widgets. However, if you cannot get them functional, you can replace them. Download a shareware utility called Pacifist from
www.versiontracker.com. Use it to access the file archives on the Tiger DVD. Find the widgets you need to replace and extract them using Pacifist. This should take care of the widget problem.
Congrats on getting the rest of the stuff back in order.
