Hi,

Yesterday via Software Update I was prompted to install update 10.4.11 and finally I decided to install after putting it off a few times.

Anyway, during the install I got an error which simply stated that it did not fully install so I quit the update (an option it gave me). After some iTunes problems later in the evening I had to restart the machine, and on restart I got the 'Panic: We're hanging here' message (a kernel error of some kind) and the machine does not start.

I have an Iomega backup disk which is bootable, so I can boot the machine from here and I can see the contents of my internal hard disk.

What I would like to find out is - can I copy some system files from my backed up disk onto my internal disk in order to repair this problem? Or is there anything way I can remove the files associated with the corrupted install manually on my internal disk?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Paul

Good you have a bootable backup. Start up from it and download the 10.4.11 combo update from Apple. Open it and choose the internal disk as the destination.

If not, the safest and likely quickest thing to do is reinstall Tiger from scratch (with Archive & Install so you don't lose your files) and immediately run Software Update to its fullest.

Thanks for the reply Ben, I'll try this later tonight when I get home. It sounds like it'll fix up the problem based upon what went wrong in the first place.

My only other issue is that after a recent house move I am having difficulty locating my OS X discs for the re-install, but I'll try this first.

I'll let you know...

Cheers, Paul
