Hi,
I have iMac PowerPC G5 with MacOSX 10.4.1.
I can not update my system by using Updater directly downloaded from Apple's download site. Always I received the message about lack of free space on my hard drive which was, of course, not true.
Based on a lot of suggestions from Apple's Discussion site I made several steps:
- started up from OS X Installer disc and launched the Disk Utility from the Installer menu,
- in the Disk Utility status area I saw "verified" status,
- I repaired the disk: no errors ware reported ("no repairs were necessary"),
- I repaired permissions: process was completed successfully,
- by using Tiger Cache Cleaner I made cache cleaning.
After restart my Mac I tried to update again but without success ("not enough space on my hard drive").
Please, help me, suggest something.
Marek.

Why not just use System Preferences/Software Update?
How much space is left on your internal hard drive?

Of course I used System Preferences/Software Update, but I have received message: "No new software updates ware available".
Therefore I tried to use other options.
On my internal hard drive I have 101,43 GB available.
PS. Sorry for late response. I have not access to my Mac during last two days.

Try the 10.4.1 to 10.4.2 updater, . Then maybe you can use System Prefs/Software Update from then on...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301722
Apple's update error page:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If your hard drive is partitioned into more than one drive that could be a reason you're getting the insufficient memory error.

Are you sure you don't have 10.4.10?
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305533
This is the latest system for OS X and can't yet be updated.

I am sure that I have Mac OS X 10.4.1.
Based on your suggestion I tried the 10.4.1 to 10.4.2 updater from
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301722 (Delta update).
Without success.
Installer informed me that: "Installing this software requires 125 MB of space" and that "You cannot install Mac OS X Update on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
I would like to add that Installer informed me also about internal hard drive - 148GB (101GB free).
My hard drive is not partioned into more then one drive.

Short of reinstalling Tiger I'm at a loss. Would you like me to reopen this question for someone else to help you? Might have more success...

OK, I will try to ask someone else.
Finaly I can reinstall my Mac OS X.
Thank you.

I would suggest installing
Applejack and running it from Single User Mode for a more complete battery of tests that might clear the glitch.
In addition, you might try using
QuickInstaller or
Pacifist to manually install the
10.4.10 combo update, downloaded from Apple.
