Yes!
Tell me more about your Mac, and I will provide you with more information about what you want to look for...
You can simply describe your Mac, and tell me what is showing in About My Mac (the top item under your Apple menu)
You can also find some information under your Apple System Profiler (also under the Apple Menu)
Give me as much information as you want.

First update your 9.2.1 to 9.2.2. That's what works well with OS X. Get it here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75186
I'd recommend getting Panther or earlier in OS X as OS 9 support going forward is going to dwindle to nothing. In fact there now is no support for OS 9. I'm thinking that OS 9 works better in 10.4 or earlier (Tiger).
Make sure your computer has enough ram and hard drive space to run tiger, at least 512MB and 8GB on the hard drive (though you'll want MUCH more space available than that for it to run smoothly).
Let me know if this helps.

Hi Dale,
Thanks for that, I opened the site you suggested and will try for the download of 9.2.2 but before I do, could you please tell me how that will affect my general usage, eg, can I still use Internet Explorer or will that change if I download Tiger 10.4 or Panther?
As you can probably tell, I have almost NO technical knowledge so I do feel a bit scared of downloading this update - what if something goes wrong and I can't access you to ask what to do? I don't suppose it's ethical to ask for your phone number so you could talk me through it? Then again, I don't know where you are anyway!
Can you give me a site for the download of tiger?
I'll wait to hear from you before I try it.
Thanks so much, Primula

Hi there! Name's Nathaniel, actually.
The 9.2.2 is perfectly safe. There is no online download of Tiger or any OS X operating system; you have to get it on a dvd disc because they are usually between 2 and 4 gigabytes of files. Try amazon. What are the specs of your computer, RAM and Hard drive space available? That will determine what OS X I'll recommend to you.
No phone call is necessary, just trust the 9.2.2 update; it just prepares your computer for OS X.
Back up ALL your personal files before you start doing this, though, just in case (you should do this anyway on a regular basis).
Remember there is no more support for IE on the mac so you should either move to Safari, apple's native browser, or go to Firefox which, in my opinion, is a much better browser:
http://www.getfirefox.com.
Remember too that OS 9 (Classic) apps don't run natively in OS X, you have to run them in "Classic" mode to do so. That's why I recommend pre Leopard (the latest OS X 10.5) for best results. This will give you time to figure out what corresponding apps you need to get on OS X to replace the Classic ones. You'll want to do that to get the best performance out of your computer.
Actually I just looked at your specs and your computer doesn't have nearly enough ram (512MB minimum recommended) or hard drive space to install os x. Ever thought about getting a new computer? That way you can just start using OS X right away without having to worry about updating your existing computer.
