I am just beginning to use Keynote and I have a couple questions about it.

The first question is, If I make a presentation using Keynote on my Mac and then I upload it to the web, will people who only have Power Point installed on their computers be able to view it?

My second question is, I am still at the beginner status of knowing how to upload things to the web. Is it difficult to upload a Keynote presentation? Is there anything particularly I should know?

Thanks,
Ragnes

No, no one but Keynote users would be able to view your slideshow, and they'd have to download the file to view it. Instead, take a look at the choices in File > Export. If it's a continuous video presentation not requiring interaction, you'll want to either export to QuickTime Web movie or Flash. If interaction, choose QuickTime Interactive Slideshow. Generally, be conscious of the size of the resulting file.

Where are you planning to post this presentation?

Ben, thanks for your prompt and helpful response. I am only barely familiar with the Export option and that did open up a lot of possibilities. I did manage to save it to both QuickTime and Flash.

I'm not sure what you mean by your last question. I'd like to post the slide show to the web for an online class I'm taking. Does that answer your question?

That's a very important detail. If you're saying that you want people with PowerPoint to be able to view your slideshow, then you're probably best off exporting as PowerPoint. I figured since you said you were posting to the Web that you wanted a Web-compatible format for viewing on a Web page.

Thank you for that clarification. Do you know how to upload a Power Point to the web. I imagine there are quite a few steps and it depends on the particular uploading system you use. But do you know if you would use a .ppt extension or a .html extension or some combination of both?

Also, do you know if it's rather easy or difficult?

Thanks,
Ragnes

What are the requirements of your class? I would expect the class would set the standard for what format of data you must post. If you're supposed to upload a PowerPoint file to be downloaded and viewed in PowerPoint, then you need to export a PowerPoint file. If you're to upload Web page content, then you need to export to HTML. There is no combining extensions. Each defines a particular type of file.
