Description:
I have a US Robotic 56K modem that used to run at about 44K BUT SINCE CHANGING from ISP Mac Link to Mac On Line it defaults to 28.8K. MacOnLine says it my computer because every thing in the world has been checked and found OK ( including the ohone line). I did, about the same time, upgrade from 8.1 to 8.5.1 and perhaps that caused a problem,e.g.modem script not being recognized.Any suggestions would help and perhaps I am not alone. thanks, RJK

Hello Richard,
Is it possible that USR has come out with some firmware to update your modem that youm might not be aware of? I have a Global Village 56K Flex modem for which they did that recently and it markedly improved the connection speed to 48000.
Although it is unlikely, have you telephoned your ISp to see if they have altered anything on their end that might be causing the degradation of the connection speed?
Just yesterday I used Sherlock to query it for modem scripts for one of the major modem mfrs. (I don't remember which) since some of them now list them on line. You might do the same and see if you can come up with a compatible script. Many modems will connect with a generic
or if you don't want to be bothereed with the digital noise.
