TICKET ARCHIVE -> USB 1.1 on emac, need 2.0

I have a 1Ghz emac with superdrive and 1gb of RAM. I feel like I am being left in the dust by not having USB 2.0 on my computer. Is there any way I can install it, or have it run through a firewire port? I'm not sure if this site is for hardware questions but maybe you can help me.

(1) In your case, I would use FW (+/- 400 MB/s in theory, USB2=+/- 450MB/s)
(2) Whatever devices you plug into your USB1 port, the final speed will always be the one of USB1. There is no way to "speed up" the port.
On the other, more and more devices (printers, scanners) using USB2 take power from that port; in your case, I would suggest, if you have to buy such an USB2 device, to buy one with an external power adaptor....to avoid to drain too much power (example scanner) for your USB1 port and damage it...yes, this can happen.
If you really need such an USB2 port, buy a self-powered (so with an external power adpator) hub and plug all you high consuming external devices into.
So: external burner -> FW or USB2; external scanner -> USB2 or USB1+powered hub; other (printer, mp3,..)-> USB1

I'm looking to get the EyeTV EZ by Elagato. It says it needs USB 2.0, but does this mean can buy a powered HUB and use USB 1? It is products like these that I am more concerned about.
Also, can the new ipod work with firewire? Because I here its USB 2.0 only, but maybe I can buy the cable?

(1) About EyeTV, I have no idea. But I would call them by the Support/Contact form on their site.
(2) About Ipod (I own a mini), I will think the USB2 is required for charging the battery as no power adpator is sell. But I would call Apple to ensure the capibility of using new generation with USB1

On second hand market, your Emac can be selll for something in between 400-500$
The MacMini (no screen) is around 550$..surely less in some store as Apple faces problem to sell them..because of the success of the G5
And a 17'' flat screen is around 120$ , a 19'' 200$

In your case, I would buy a IpodMini: it is still possible to buy a 2GB around 150$ in some stores
(Well prices are given as a translation of European prices)
