Hi i have recently purchased a second hand white Macbook early edition i think!

recently i tried to install a version of tiger so that i could erase the whole computer to make it as new as possible but the installation disk does not seem compatible with my macbook?? any advise here??

also a few days ago both my usb ports do not seem recognise any items plugged into them i.e mouse, ipod etc.. any advise on what the problem could be, prior to this happening i did have a 4 hub usb plugged in!

sorry i am new to this so any advise would be grateful

OK

Hello Amit and thanks for coming to macosx.com and I will try to guide you here.

First of all though I have a few questions as I am a little confused.

You say you have an Early intel MacBook - but in the sidebar you say Processor 667MHz (which if true makes it not a MacBook but an iBook of the G3 variety) Unless of course you meant system bus...

Any MacBook would have come with Tiger installed (10.4.6 at least) and should have been sold to you complete with its own installer disks. Being an intel Mac it cannot be installed from earlier disks, or even contemporary ones from the power G4/G4 Macs that preceded it.

If you do not have a intel only or universal installer you may need to buy one (although if you do you might well be better off buying a copy of Leopard and be done with it.

If the Mac is running I would be inclined to update it to 10.4.10 using software update and make a bootable clone using something such as Carbon Copy Cloner

In short if you didn't get the MacBook specific install DVD with the laptop you have been sold a bit short my friend.

If you are not sure of the exact placement of your MacBook in the family line download MacTracker free from here http://mactracker.dreamhosters.com/ which can tell you just about all there is to know

Right at the moment I couldn't really comment on the usb problem, does it accept low power items (usb flash drive for example?) Was it working reliably before you tried to do a reinstall? What about if you plug the 4 port hub back in?

Hope that is some help at least - come back with more information on the USB thing and I will see if anything else springs to mind.

Hi

Thank you so much for your time and efforts i will find out the exact spec of my macbook and clarify the model and spec its just so confusing! due to the different models released

here is a link to show you what my macbook model looks like (its the same as figure 4)

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306843

i think your advise on purchasing the new OS is probably a good idea

in reference to the usb port issue i have tried all items that should autamatically appear on the desktop but as yet no joy

I will try and plug in the hub once again and see what happens i do miss using a mouse the trackpad can become a little annoying lol

The ports worked fine before i hope its not a big problem do you think the new os might resolve the problem

i will find out the correct spec and let you know asap

thanks again for your patients
