Hi there,

Over the last week I have been trying to set up our ichat so we can see some friends in the UK.

I am on an imac G5 and have set up using a .mac account and have an isight camera attached. Our service provider is Telstra Bigpond. Our friend is on NTL World. Out of frustration we downloaded MSN Messenger, but when we both tried using messenger, we had video hook up no problem but no sound.

When using ichat, we are set up to receive a video chat from a buddy when we get the call saying all good to connect and offering us to "Accept" however when we accept it comes up with an error that we have not responded.

I have read some articles about firewalls and I believe I have turned my firewall off. Is there anything that stands out here?

Hope you can shed some light on this??

Regards,

Dan

Hi Dan

Do you have the Firewall in OS X turned off?
Do you use a Router?

Is your friend use the latest version of AIM and Windows XP?
The AIM download page for Windows also has a video file that has to be installed on the PC.

Does your friend use a router or Firewall?

Hi Bob,

Tanks for the reply. We have checked all of the above and it appears that both firewalls are turned off, neither of us use a router and our friend is using the most current version of AIM, reinsalled to be sure.

It has been mentioned that our modem has a NAT Configuration that may not be compatible for av chats on a mac? Our internet provider has told us it is not a problem with the service provided but was unable to tell me what settings shold be changed in our modem, as the modem will work with a Windows XP??

Have you any experience in this area?

I can find our IP address and the NAT Configuration page with options but am unsure what each option will do?

If not yourself, could you recommend someone who could help us here? The third party suggested by our internet provider has failed to return our calls!! so any suggestion may help.

Thanks again,

Dan Eagles

You have no Routers or Firewalls involved, so my guess is the modem either you or your friend is using is causing NAT problems. Some modems just don't work for this. I would check with the modems manufacturer and see if they have a firmware upgrade available.

Open iChat and see if you can connect to this Test account;

appleu3test01

It's just a loop of someone on an airplane. This will let you know if the problem is on your end.

Hi there,

Thanks for the heads up on the test account. It was proving to get quite frustrating with someone in the UK our only test...... All looks to be working on this end so I guess all the right Nat ports or our port forwarding is set up correctly!

Thanks for your help and we'll get onto our mate to sort his end out now.

Thanks again,

Dan Eagles.
