Hi!
When you say media, I assume you mean audio and video files, and stuff like that?
To the best of my knowledge there are no compatibility issues here. You can even download a mac version of windows media player to play your files! (Though I should point out, its not nearly as good as the pc version). If your music files are mp3s, you can open them in iTunes straight away! If youve got loads of wma files, you might need to convert them to mp3s first. I think iTunes will do that for you, but if it wont, you can use
http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Audio/EasyWMA.shtml to change their formats. You might even be able to do it in windows, before you copy the files.
For videos, you can open wmv files in windows media player (on the mac). Quicktime player will play a lot of other things, or you can download
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ which will play pretty much anything you throw at it.
As for pictures, you should be able to open any of them with preview, or, if its a filetype that preview refueses to open, try graphic converter -
http://www.lemkesoft.com/en/graphcon.htm .
You can link your WIndows98 laptop to a mac using an ethernet cable - either use an ethernet crossover cable or two straight ethernet cables and an ethernet hub. We've got a win98 machine networked to a bunch of macs, and they have a few issues (mainly with usernames and stuff - i think you have to set the usernames to the same thing on both machines for everything to work ok, most of the problems that I found were at the windows end, but that might be because I know more about macs than pcs.)
I hope all that helps, and good luck!
