Knowledge Level: Expert but stumped

Problem: Software
Computer Type:
Model:
RAM: Not related
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: Not related

Description:
Looking for a utility to tell me what was installed by newly installed software. Have seen this utility but can't remember it's name and can't locate it on my numerous cd's. I maintain 200 Macs at a school and often 'push' software out to them using Network Assistant. Need to push out networked Hewlett Packard printer drivers. Is there a problem doing this such as finder modification as well as drivers?

thanks

Hi Harry,

I'm not aware of any program that does exactly this. Conflict Catcher can list "date installed" for extensions, which may be what you're thinking of. However, I've had success with SkyTag's File Buddy 's "Inventory" feature. You use it to take a snapshot of the files present on a disk or in a folder, then do the same thing after installation, choose "Compare Inventories" and it will create text files listing new, deleted, and changed items. File Buddy does many, many other things and is well worth the $40 fee.

Another thing you can try is, if you use Retrospect, do an incremental backup prior to and subsequent to installing the software. Then browse the backup catalog, and you'll see a list of the files that were installed.
