Hi there
I'm trying to burn some Vcd's using Toast. Looks pretty simple, and yet, it won't let me.
Each file is a .mov file and is about 697MB. A blank dics is 700MB. So, I figure, well, enough space.
As soon as I drop the file into Toast the file size jumps to 899MB and it won't let me burn becuase there's not enough room on the CD.
How/why does this happen and is there a way of fixing it? Also, how do i burn .bin/.cue files to a VCD in Toast?
Thanks for you help guys. You rock.

Aviv,
This is a really complicated problem that's about to get a whole lot easier for Mac people.
Here's the scoop. Toast can't make a DVD or VCD directly from a .mov/.avi etc file. It needs to convert these files into the format that is read by the DVD player.
So toast has to first re-encode the file into the proper format. If those original files were using a more advanced compression codec (which most of the time is the case), the space needed to put into VCD format is going to be larger then the file itself.
So what's the answer. If you aren't on a deadline my suggestion would be to buy Toast 7. It is getting released next Wednesday. It features the capability to compress the video during the re-encoding so that you are able to fit the file onto 1 CD or DVD.
If you are the impatient type or just want to learn a whole lot more about this, you may want to use ffmpegx:
http://homepage.mac.com/major4/
This gives you a tool to convert and re-encode the file yourself so that it will fit onto 1 CD, although can be a little overwhelming when you start to open Pandora's box.
Note: You will still need to use Toast to burn the file.
Hopefully this answers your question? Let me knwo if i can be of more help.
