TICKET ARCHIVE -> Viewing a previous version of a document in Word 2004?

Is this possible? I already saved it but I made a mistake and saved the wrong version. Is it possible to "go back"?

Only if you have turned on the Word preference option to save multiple versions of a document. This feature is turned off by default. If you haven't enabled it then you cannot "go back" to an earlier version of the saved document.

Well all options on that screen are clear. Would the one you're talking about be called: Always create backup copy?

Also, is it possible to go back more than one saved version? If so, how many? Looks like I seriously need some incremental backup software. Is Retrospect regarded as the King in this area? What about Lacie Silverkeeper?

Well, I'm not sure, but I believe it's on the Save options of Word preferences and/or the section on tracking changes.
And, yes, you do want to check the option to create a backup copy.
Retrospect is the king of backup utilities. I also highly recommend Synchronize! Pro X and Deja Vu. You can also use SilverKeeper or Carbon Copy Cloner but they would be secondary choices in my opinion.
A good reliable external Firewire drive large enough to backup your entire hard drive is also a requirement for a good backup strategy. For more information on backup and restore strategies visit

Thanks-great advice.
Why is Retrospect better in some people's opinion?
skapp - Apr 22, 2006 - 2:10 pm
Everyone has their own opinions as to why they like one software product vs. another. Retrospect gets its reputation because it has been around as a Mac product for years, it's well supported, and it does virtually everything one might need a backup program to do. No other product does it all.
