Knowledge Level: Intermediate
Problem: Other
Computer Type: Apple Macintosh
Model: 6100 PPC
RAM: 48meg
RAM Enhancer: Ram Doubler 2.x
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
Dear Sirs,
I have a Macintosh PPC, my brother has a Wintel computer running Windows'95 or '98. He has sent me via e-mail a picture of his new baby girl. Unfortunately, I cannot open this picture with any program. I asked my internet provider, Netcom, if they had a plug - in or some thing to relieve this problem. Unfortunately, they do not have a Mac plug - in for the application to open the picture. Image information is as follows;
Name: PIC24725.PCX
Type: unspecified type (application/octet-stream)
Encoding: base64
Do you know of any way to open this type of image on a Mac, because I would love to see a picture of my niece, before I see her at Christmas. I hope you can help me.
Thank You.

Toten,

PCX is a graphics file format used on the Windows platform. There are a number of mac programs that can display this format. Probably the best such program is Graphic converter, available as shareware from Macworld's archives at:
http://hotfiles.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/te...?fcode=MC10312

Once you download and launch Graphic Converter, just use the normal Open command to load and display your picture.
Thanks for using NoWonder,
