I'm switching to a Mac and just ordered a PowerBook. I bought Virtual PC standalone because it said I needed a copy of Windows (I really just need it for Quicken, since everything I've read says the Mac version is lame). When I looked through the CDs that came with my Windows laptop (Toshiba Satellite M35X), all that was in there was a Toshiba Recovery/Backup DVD (shrinkwrapped with an XP instruction manual), which had the disclaimer "will not work on another computer system." My question is, will Virtual PC be able to use this DVD to install Windows? I'd ask Microsoft, but I'm quite sure they'd tell me I have to buy a separate copy of XP. I'm chicken to even open the Virtual PC carton if it won't work (can't return it).

I know this isn't OSX-specific, but thanks for any info.

Hi Jeff

I don't know for sure, but it's doubtfull that your recovery DVD will work in VPC. That DVD will look for certain hardware which won't be present. Microsoft locks things up like this.

Quicken works well on the Mac.
