I have recently installed virtual PC7 on my G4 768MB 1GHz OS X 10.2.8.

It all went smoothly until ..

I came to print and I can't. I have a hp psc 2210 all-in-one, which I gather from looking through your other queries, is likely to be the problem. I hope there is some way around it.

so far I have un-installed and re-installed several times.
when I look at device manager though there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it on the USB.

When I go to print, it says its gone and then comes up with an error USB 001 message.

The other problem I have is that it runs incredibly slowly to the point where I have to wait 10-20 seconds between entering figures!

All ideas gratefully received. Kate

VPC7 is really slow. Especially if you don't have enough RAM. You seem to have enough but even with the RAM it still runs slow.

USB is a problem that M$ knows about and doesn't seem to want to fix it. Imagine that. A multibillion dollar company that doesn't want to fix bugs in their software.

Do you have USB sharing checked in the settings box of VPC?

For now I suggest that you transfer the file to the Mac OS and print from there. You didn;t mention what you were trying to do so I can't help you there. I don't have any idea what programs you need to get the job done.

Thanks for that, that makes me feel less of a plank!

The programmes I am running are: Quickbooks and Tax calc. The taxcalc has my t ax return on which I will send in electronically but I would like a print out first!.

Would you be kind enough to tell me how I go about transferring the file to the Mac OS?

thanks. Kate

Hello Kate,

As Coleman has apparently been busy elsewhere, I will try to assist you further.

There are several ways to do that.
1) Drag the file from Windows Explorer to the Macintosh Finder, or to the Mac Desktop. Exposé (F9) may come in handy if you work on a small screen.
2) In VPC's preferences, enable the home directory sharing, this makes your Mac Home directory appear as a shared drive in Windows (you even get to choose its letter, I believe the default is Z. From Windows, simply save your file to this Z: drive and you'll find it in your Mac home.

Hope this helps, let me know how it goes.

I know I'm being really thick here, but still no joy. It may be that I have to talk to the software people at Intuit regarding quickbooks, I can't "print to file - only to a printer- or their internal printer - would that be a file??

Hello again,

Sorry, can't help you with Quickbook as I've never used it... And haven't used a non-virtual PC in 4 years either ;-)

If you have further questions about Virtual PC itself, don't hesitate to post another question to macosx.com support.

Good luck!

JFG
