I'm new to the Mac environment and I installed VM Fusionware to run Vista on my new IMac. I did not like the program and uninstalled it. It stated I needed to delete the Virtual Machine manually and suggested a default location to look. I did not find it there, but my hard drive is full enough to suggest that it was not removed. How do I locate this file and remove it or how do I know it was removed?

If you are still having this problem, you can do a search for any file containing the string (without quotes) ".vmwarevm".
If you do not know how to perform a search, please tell us what operating system you are using on your Mac and how many external drives or networks you are connected to.
Hope this helps.

Hi Bill.. thanks for the information. The OS is Mac OS X 10.5.1.. I have only the main drive on the system and an external drive for backup. This is connected via USB.

OK. I guess if you answered my question, you don't know how to search your drives.
Quit all applications. That's not really necessary, but it will ensure that nothing is blocking your view of the Finder.
Go to the Finder. The easiest way is to click on your desktop and look at the apple menu in the upper left corner of your screen. If it says Finder just to the right, you are (you guessed it) in the Finder. If you quit all applications, you will be there already.
By the way, it is very good idea always to keep at least one finder window open. I keep two. Let's assume you don't have any open now. Please open one.
Making sure you are still in the finder, hold down the Command key (pretzel symbol) and press N, then release. You will see a finder window open on your desktop.
Look at the wide gray band at the top of the Finder window and notice the white space to the right of all of the icons. Enter .vmwarevm in that space and see what happens. Maybe your virtual drive will show up immediately. If so, drag it to the trash.
If not, look at the little options just under the white space where you entered the search string. Make sure you click on File Name instead of Contents.
If it still doesn't appear, look to the left of the Finder window under "Devices" and select your USB drive if it appears there.
If it still doesn't appear, go to System Preferences on your Apple menu (top of your screen). When you get the preferences display, click on Spotlight. When you get the Spotlight preferences display, select Privacy at the top of the window. Make sure that your USB drive is NOT listed there. If it is, select it and delete it using the minus button at the bottom of the window.
Go back to your finder window. If the file still has not appeared, you don't have one.
Mind you, i am not sure that a USB drive will appear in your finder. It may be accessible only through your backup software. If that's true, there is no way your virtual machine could be on it.
Typed a lot here. Hope I didn't confuse you. Hope it might even have helped. Let me know if you can, please.
Best,
- Bill
