TICKET ARCHIVE -> VNC client problem

Hi,

I want to access my desktop on a remote server. So far, I have tried Chicken of the VNC and VNCthing, and an ssh tunnel. The result is always a solid blue or grey screen.

I realize that you don't know how this server is set up, but my question is about my own Mac. Is there some way the operating system, or something I have installed, could interfere with these VNC clients? I have a PowerBook G4, Tiger 10.4.4.

Thanks,

Hermann

Hi Hermann,

I am using Chicken of the VNC successfully on an iMac G5 with 10.4.4. So I think that part is OK. You have to allow the VNC ports in the OS X firewall, if you are running that.

For the server end of things, have you tried Share My Desktop? (Bombich Software, for Macs.) That's what my mom uses to share her desktop with me over the internet and it works very well.

Hi Beverly,

Thank you--I didn't know that there was a VNC permission that had to be set.
It was in the New.. list that I'd never looked at. Things seem to be working for now.

As for the server, that's run by the system people on the other end. Out of my control..

Hermann

Hi Hermann,

Since things are working for now, I am going to close this ticket. Thanks for using macosx.com!
