hi,

i'm IT manager in a small company and i was wondering about vnc related app.

in windows there is an application that uses vnc for remote support where you just run the exe press, someone name and it sands him a request to connect to your computer and assist you.

this is the website of the application.

http://www.uvnc.com/addons/singleclick.html

i know that it uses vnc and mac os has vnc clients.

but how do i run an exe file or how do i create dmg file with single click like that ?

thank for your help !

Aviran Akrish.

Hello Aviran

thanks for using macosx.com and I will try to advise and assist you as best I can

OK - yes the Mac has VNC - there is the basic built in one or better (imho) you can use one like Vine Server (free here http://www.redstonesoftware.com/products/vine_server/)

You can access it in a dozen ways - with Chicken of the VNC (using the "old school" port 22 forwarding preferably) or their own Vine Viewer.

Or you could opt for the Apple Remote Desktop solution...

But right now if you need a "quick and dirty" cross platform solution to serve up "tech support" that just works take a look at LogMeIn.com...

Now for Mac and Windows - free for basics - and for IT outreach or tech support there are inexpensive packages, even allowing for the "one click, no software required" option you seem to be seeking

FWIW I am now routinely using LogMeIn FREE to support friends, family and even paying clients... I just get them to create a LogMeIn account - get them to give me the details and "Boom" I have control... (equally you could set up a free "company" account and get them to log into that and just give them a unique ID)

You can watch them work and SEE the problem or take over and guide them... Mac to Mac, Mac to Win, Win to Mac or even Win to Win is no different... Actually you can do it from any comp with 'net access (even the iPhone will do it - slowly and awkwardly - but it can be done , yes I have tried it...)

For the cost you may find the "paid for" IT services well worth your money (I have no afilliation with them btw... I am just a happy user) - but with a little planning the free version will do all you need to remotely support a dozen PC or more

If you want more info on "private" solutions come back and we can talk more

Thanks Aviran, I was not aware of WizHelp... looks quite good and supports Linux - doesn't seem quite so "tidy" as LogMeIn but if it works well for you then there your have it!

As to a roaming profile - that is out of my field... I have no experience with that sort of thing - put up another ticket and someone else will take it..

Hope I was helpful
