I did the best I could to choose the correct category; I don't really know what this should go under:
I just got a new Macbook (the 2GHz 60 GB one) a few days ago, and there has so far been only one problem with it. Whenever I try to look at a movie trailer on the apple site, first the trailer is distorted (lots of little rectangles of the wrong colors arranged very neatly in the window), and then as soon as that happens, little pixels become wrong throughout the computer (showing the wrong colors, or are moved a little to the right or the left from where they should be), especially in the dock icons. As soon as I put the computer to sleep and wake it back up, it's fine, but it's something I'd like fixed if possible.
I've played aorund with some other things, and I think I've discovered that it's not Quicktime movies, but only the trailers... I've looked at a couple other video clips online, and they're fine, ditto for downloaded .mov files.
This problem also started before I had downloaded the most recent quicktime update, however, it persisted afterwards...
Any ideas? I'd be happy to clarify anything if it might help. Also, my brother recently bought the same exact computer, and has not had the same trouble.
Thanks
I would run the downloadable combo updater to 10.4.7 available for download from Apple's site; don't use the delta updater which only updates from 10.4.5 or 10.4.6 (whichever came with your MacBook). The combo updater is large but it replaces a huge number of files, one or more of which I suspect has been corrupted on your Macintosh.
You can run the combo updater to 10.4.7 even if you are alread running 10.4.7. It is a convenient way of getting rid of strange system gremlins like this.
If this doesn't work, I would take the MacBook back to your local Apple Store or authorized reseller and show them what's happening. They'll probably ask you to reinstall your OS, and that's not a bad idea if running the combo updater doesn't work. Use the Archive/Install option so that you don't lose all your network settings, etc.
HTH and please let us know what happens. Thanks.
