I am using os x 10.4.5 on a G4.
I like using widgets, they're cool, they're fun, but something is not right in my land of widgets. When I first started using them all was fine. Lately my Dictionary, Symantec, and Snow Condition widgets are unreadable. In the dictionary all the text, the word, definition everything is being displayed in numbers and fractions with super tight psycho like kerning.
I've tried the Disk Utility repair permissions suggestion shutdown and restarted. I zapped the PRAM. I've recently optimized the HD. HELP!! I wish I could upload a screenshot of the madness I'm talking about.
This also happens in Safari on some web sites.

Hi,
try uploading a screenshot now. There should be a button above this reply. Then we'll take a peek at it...

I am sorry that I forgot about your question, but I do not get notified when you upload a file... only when you write a reply...
If you still have the problem, then I am very willing to take a lool:
The screenshot that you uploaded doesn't work: You uploaded a corrupt file. Neither Preview or Photoshop can open it. Can you try again or check whether the file that you have is also corrupt. (Maybe it happened while uploading)
Sorry about that^ again,

ok, I just found the your second (duplicate) question, which also has the uploaded file: It works here.
My guess is that you uninstalled some files by accident or that you somehow changed some preferences.
Therefore, the steps to take:
1---Open the applifcation Font Book.app (in your applicatiosn folder) and see if all the fonts listed under Computer and Classic Mac OS are turned on. If not 'enable' them by highlighting them and then choosing Edit>Enable..Name of Font... After that check if things work again. You might have to log in and out.
2---Try deleting the following .plist files:
>Your User Name>Library>Preferences>widget-com.NAME OF THE WIDGET(S) THAT YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH
After that you might have to log in and out again.
If that still doesn't help... Drop me a line...

Thanks for your reply. I believe this was a case of "NEW" user error on my part. I assumed (and we know the consequences of assuming!) that you would get the uploaded file.
Since I posted my question, I needed to clear my HD and reload everything so the problem has been cleared up. Long ago I heard that you need to reformat your HD at least once a year to clear off unused and fragments of files, I guess it was time. Everthing is working fine now.
Thanks again for your response and for this site existing. It truly is an eye in the storm of home Macintosh maintenance.
