I am getting Dreamweaver CS3 to build a website. It was suggested on the forum that I use Photoshop with this. The version I have on my eMac is 2.0 and I have never used it. I now operate OSX 10.4.11. Do I need an updated version of Photoshop?

Hello Beth

thanks for using macosx.com and I will do my best to advise/assist you.

OK, starting at the start, Dreamweaver is a very good and very powerful application - it is also pretty expensive. There are cheaper tools that can build websites (RapidWeaver for example). I don't want to teach you how to suck eggs - if you have a big complex site to build or have experience with DreamWeaver, or you have chosen DreamWeaver for some particular feature then you should stick with it, if not perhaps you should consider the options before blowing a lot of cash on DreamWeaver. I recommend taking a look at www.pure-mac.com which is a superb resource for finding Mac software.

Right now onto the main question - Photoshop - much the same applies to Photoshop as Dreamweaver - it is big and powerful and expensive.
Again it depends on what it is you want to do with it... many alternatives are available (iPhoto, Pixelmator, Photoshop Elements, LiveQuartz and several more, check pure-mac.com) - as to Photoshop 2.0, that may well do what you want if it will run (you will need Classic installed and even then it may not work as it is pretty old). The oldest OS X running Photoshop is v7... but that will break if you upgrade to Leopard (10.5)

So first try your Photoshop 2, if that doesn't do what you require consider what exactly you need to do with an image editor look at your options

Hope that helps a bit - if you need more in depth advice come back and I will try to advise you more

Thank you for your response. You gave me a lot of good information. I may decide to get something else instead of Dreamweaver. As for Photoshop 2, I still have Classic installed on my computer and I will see what I can do with it. I will also check the pure-mac site, a site I am not familiar with.
If I need more help, i.e., if I choose different software, I will come back for help.
Thanks,
Beth (RetiredTeacher)

After a lot of Internet researching and reading, I do believe that I will go with RapidWeaver.I believe it will do what I need and I have discovered that I probably should have a new computer to properly load and run Dreamweaver. Thanks for suggesting alternatives.

My question is this: Is my computer OK for RapidWeaver as it is? I am running Mac OS X version 10.4.11.

Hello again

http://www.realmacsoftware.com/rapidweaver/ says 10.4.3 is required so RapidWeaver should be fine...
