At one time in the past, possibly pre X.4.8 I could get both audio & video, now I get only audio,is there a solution?

Since Microsoft no longer supports its player on the Mac and has instead directed users to Flip4Mac Windows Media Components for QuickTime, I suggest installing the latter and retesting. You'd be using QuickTime and Flip4Mac would convert your Windows Media Videos to play there.

Well, Windows Media Player is not an Apple application, so I wonder who would inform you of the switch. Subscribing to MacFixIt is probably one of the best places to be. MacFixIt posted on 13 January 2006 that Microsoft stopped developing WMP and endorsed Windows Media Components for QuickTime, then produced by Flip4Mac.

On 28 July, MacFixIt posted that the plugin had been released as a Universal Binary, after many user frustrations, finally making it compatible with Intel-based Macs.

I also posted on several forums about the upcoming release and after the fact to inform users about it. Finally, did you search Macosx.com for Windows Media related posts? I and others have posted about Flip4Mac's alternative.

Thank you I guess I will have to pay closer attention to what I read & as I have just joined I'm not familiar with all your Posts, but one of the reasons for joining is that you give faster answers than the Apple site

I'm glad you're finding solutions through this great resource. If not already, I encourage you to search the site, including the forums, before posting your questions. I look forward to helping you with your future frustrations.

I'm unclear about your feedback. Are you saying switching to Flip4Mac's plugin didn't work? I hope you didn't pay for anything here. Perhaps the issue is the file you're trying to play. Can you link me to it to test on my end?

I don't mind if you just paste the addresses right here.

I'm afraid your dealing with a technically challenged person here, the WMVS have been saved in a folder,I do'nt know what you mean by pasting the address's

Where did you get them?

I have several from various sources, the WMVS were attachments which I watched & saved,& now as I say I can only get audio,in most cases I could'nt tell you now who sent them.Would it help if I E mailed them to you ?

Sure, email one of them to me. You might also want to try reinstalling the latest version of QuickTime.

Here's a real puzzler for you,.mac mail will not accept you address, however when I went to mail & added the attachment it opened, now I have tried others & the same thing happens, they wo'nt open on the desktop but will if they are put in an Email,Explanation??
I should add I have Quick Time Pro & they keep sending me updates,I thank you for your effort & maybe I have given you something to think about

No explanation, without direct interaction. Even if you save somewhere other than the Desktop? QTPro shouldn't make a difference; I have it too. It's the same application, only with additional features turned on.

Well as long as I'm able to play them I'm not to fussy about why they work the way they do.I have asituation here that baffles many of my friends,I have .mac,
apple mail, entourage as part of office 2004 I wanted it for the Power Point & the mail box supplied by my ISP,& I am finding that things are not always as they seem.Guess I wasted some money,oh well I can't travel for health reasons so I'll say it's from my travel Budget. Thanks again.Bud
