I have a Mac iBook that runs Mac OS X. I tried to download Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS. When I clicked "download" it downloaded a file named "Windows Media.sitx" to my desktop.
I tried to open the file and it asked me to choose an application. The installer application could not open the file. I then read that I may need to use a program called Stuff It to extract the .sitx file. I downloaded the free trial version of the Stuff It program. When I clicked "download" for this program it downloaded a file named "StuffItStandard9.exe" to my desktop. When I tried to open this it asked me to choose an application it would also not open with the Installer application.
I don't know where to go from here. How can I get these installation files to run so I can listen to Windows Media Player files over the internet? Thanks very much for the help.
You downloaded the Windows version of Stuffit Expander. It won't work on a Mac. What you want you will find here:

However, you may want to download Flip4Mac instead of WMP inasmuch as it replaces WMP which is no longer supported by Microsoft for the Mac. You'll find it here:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/28842
It will come as a .dmg file and doesn't require Stuffit to open. Just download and double-click on the file to mount the disk image.
I really appreciate the help. I am a new Mac user and am not that familiar with how everything works.
I actually did download the Flip4Mac program and it seems to be working well with the exception of playing certain audio files on the internet. Specifically, I was trying to play song clips from an album on amazon.com. When I click "Listen" under the WMP column, the computer opens a new small window that appears to be for playing the clip, but the clip never plays. If I click the play button in that window, it says "Loading...," but never does anything. I don't know if you would know what is causing this problem, but I thought I would ask just in case.
Thanks again for you help. I really appreciate it.
Some audio clips won't work with WMP or Flip4Mac. These are usually clips that require Real Networks RealPlayer.
If you are trying to play audio or video while in your browser be sure you don't have any special pop-up blocking and content blocking activated. These can sometimes cause browser originated files to fail to open.
