I have recently installed windows media player for my OSX system and it does not seem to be recognized by the website that I am seeking to use. Is there something that I need to do?

Thanks

What is your hardware configuration and model? What version of OS X are you using? What version of WMP did you install? What is the website with which you are having a problem?

I can't access the site at all. I get a message that says I'm not authorized to access the site, so I can't check it out to see if I have the same problem.

I am running 10.4.1 and WMP 9, too. The player is somewhat iffy, I've found but it will work. For example, on CNN's site if I click on a video to see, WMP loads in a separate window, indicates it's getting data, but nothing happens. If I then close the window then reselect the video, the player reopens the windows and now shows it's buffering data, and then plays fine.

However, I've talked to another user who could not get the player to work at a particular website despite the fact that I was able to get it working from my system. He was running Jaguar rather than Tiger, so we assumed it may be a Java incompatibility since the website had recently changed it's format.

Since I don't know how you installed Tiger, I will suggest the following as a precaution:

Boot from your Tiger DVD. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer's Utilities menu. After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.

If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior 3.0.3 and/or TechTool Pro 4.0.4 to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

Well, I tried accessing just the main site, which I could. I turned off Safari's pop-up blocker and Pithhelmet's filters. The error message I got when trying to play one of the videos via WMP is that version 9 for the Mac is not supported by the site. However, the stuff using Macromedia flash seems to work OK.
