I have Tiger and have found recently that I will lose the ability to minimize windows (in all applications) about 80% of the time. The option is greyed out and the button and the keyboard commands do not work. I run all the regular maintenance on my system and have tried restarting but the problem keeps coming back. I have not installed any new software for weeks before this started happening. Does anybody have a clue on how to fix this?

Brian,
My name is Cheryl and I will be assisting you.
Are you set as the Admin of the computer or a limited user?
When you installed Tiger, did you select Upgrade, Archive or Clean install?

I'm the admin and I upgraded it to Tiger right out of the box (its a new laptop).

Brian,
It could very well be that the Upgrade install did not remove all the files it should have. I suggest you do an Archive and Preserve install. This will not touch the applications you installed, nor your home folder. It will install a new system folder and rename the old one Previous System.
Plug in the power adaptor, then start up the laptop with the Tiger DVD.
Select your language. The Welcome to the Mac OS X Installer window appears.
Click Continue. The Important Information window appears.
After reading or printing the information, click Continue. The Software License Agreement window appears.
After reading or printing the information, click Continue.
An agreement sheet appears. If you agree with the license agreement, click Agree. The Select a Destination window appears.
Click the volume that you wish to install to.
Click Options. The installation options sheet appears.
Select Archive and Install.
Select the volume which already has Mac OS X installed.
You should also select Preserve Users and Network Settings, to preserve network and Home directory settings.
Click OK.
Click Continue to begin the installation.
The only thing you need to do is a fresh install of Stuffit Expander and anti virus if you use them.
When done, go to Applications>Utilities and open Disk Utility to repair permissions. Then you can install the 10.4.1 update. You should repair permissions after that install as well.
This should correct the problem.
