Model: G3

OS Version: MacOS 8.5.1

Description:
My problem is that i canīt get through out networks Microsoft Proxy Server in order to upload and download files via FTP. Is there a Microsoft WinSock Proxy Client for Macintosh? Or is there any other solution to my problem?

Everything else works fine like Explorer 4.5 and Outlook Exchange Server Edition 5.5. I also use Dave 2.1 to connect to our NT server.

We have tried to solve the problem with SoftWindows 98 but the Microsoft WinSock Proxy Client will not install. The WSP Client must be installed from the server and when I doubleclick, it starts working and after a while I get an alert with the message: Microsoft Proxy Client 2.0 setup was not completed sucessfully.

Gunno,
The answer is yes and no.

Yes, there is a Winsock client for Macintosh. Trouble is the only time I've seen it used is in a few products that were written for Windows and Mac. An example is Quicken Deluxe 98.

The problem is that it will be difficult to get the Winsock client to work unless you're a developer and can write your own code. There's no user interface so there's no way to configure it.

The other part of your problem is that your network administrator may not be giving people access to ftp through the Proxy Server. Some software already has the capability to be configured for passing through a firewall or Proxy server. How you do that has to be told by your system administrator who may not be too helpful.

Another solution is to use a modem to call out (bypassing the proxy server). The only other way around this would be for your Network administrator to give you a way to bypass the proxy server (maybe a special IP address), but I doubt that he/she would let you do that. (We've been begging for that at the place I work for about 2-3 years now. As an Apple Developer I'm not able to download Apple seed releases through the proxy server; I have to use another internet provider and download by modem).

Thanks for using NoWonder,
