TICKET ARCHIVE -> Wireless Card For Older Powerbook G4 Using Os X 10.4

Hi.
I have a powerbook G4 that is about 2 1/2 years old. It has the original version of airport. I want to upgrade my OS for 10.4 and get a wireless card...what wireless card do I get? I would like to find something cheaper than the old apple airport card. Any suggestions? I have heard that Belkin F5D7011 is compatable, is that true?

The absolutely best solution is a Motorola 802.11g Notebook Adapter - WN825G.
I found one on-line at PriceGrabber.Com for around $20.
This card is 100% Mac compatible.
I removed the Airport card from my wife's 400MHZ Titanium PowerBook and the Motorola Card simply plugs in the PC Card/Cardbus slot.
The card appears as a standard "Airport Card " in Network Preferences.
And the inprovement in Airport reception is really noticeable.
Cheers,
Rob

And this card has drivers that support OS X 10.4 ?

Support is built in to 10.4 no special drivers are required. It runs exactly as the Airport card would - only at the higher 802.11g speeds. That's why it is a perfect solution.
Many other cards do require special drivers but not this Motorola card.

Rob

Thank you so much for your help!!! One last question (I promise!)...I want a wireless card, so I can take my laptop to a coffee house with wifi to do work. By getting this card, will I be able to do that? I am not looking to have and airport and wifi at home.
Thanks!

Yes wifi is a standard -all wifi networks will talk to your laptop with this card.
Cheers,
Rob

Hi....
I have purchased and received the Motorola notebook adapter. Can you explain how I put it in my computer as well as anything else I will need to do to set up wireless?
Thanks!
Caitlin

As stated above, the Motorola Card simply plugs in the PC Card/Cardbus slot.
This is on the left hand side of the PowerBook - the only slot - it has a grill cloth that the card pushes in.
Then go to System preferences - the network preference and set the airport setting to use DCHP to connect to the internet.

Rob
