I just purchased some Cd-RWs 24X, 700MB, 80 min

I have a G5 running 10.7.4

The cd is automatically ejected. I assume it is an incompatible format. Where do I get information about correct formats?

thanks

Dear Kwaldo,
In all likelihood, your CD blank preferences and/or your user cd preferences are either set incorrectly or corrupted, respectively. First, I assume that you are running OS X 10.4.7 not 10.7.4 (unless your question jumped multi-dimensional space-time). Go the the blue apple in the upper left of the screen and select System Preferences (4th item down from top). Select the CDs and DVDs icon and set the preferences to open up the Finder or disk burning program of choice (Toast by Roxio, DragonBurn, etc) when blank CDs or DVDs are inserted. For example, you can set the blank CD preference to open iTunes for music CD burning and the DVD preference to open iDVD when a blank DVD is inserted. You can also specify the computer to ask you what to do each time you put in a blank.

The next step is to toss the preference files in your home preferences folder. Here's how to get there: From the Finder (you can make sure you're in the Finder by clicking on a free spot on the desktop and you will see "Finder" next to the blue apple. Look to the right and you will see "GO". Click on GO and choose Home. From there, choose your user name and look at the folders in there. Find the LIBRARY folder and double-click on it to open it. Find the Preferences folder and open it, viewing it as a list [just click on the middle section of the VIEW options on the upper left of the folder frame (the gray border around the window)]. In this list, find "CDDB preferences" and "CD Info.cidb" and drag them to the trash.

Next, go back to the GO menu and choose Utilities. In there, find the Disk Utility and double click it to open it up. Select the second disk in the left column (the first indented disk usually named Macintosh HD) by clicking ONCE on it, then look to the lower center of the window and click once on the button labeled "REPAIR DISK PERMISSIONS" or "REPAIR PERMISSIONS." Let it run through and quit it when it is done. For good measure, do a restart of the computer, then once the desktop is visible and all is loaded, try putting the CD-RW in it.

It IS possible that the CD burner doesn't work well with that brand of disk. Try another brand if the above fix doesn't work, okay? Don't give up. I hope this was of some help and wasn't too confusing. If it is overwhelming, just take it one step at a time. If you get stuck, write me at MacExperts@gmail.com.
Thanks,
Jeff Wrobel
