I tried dowloading yahoo messenger; but when I try to open it up, it just says, trying to connect. I use to be able to be on it before I updated some of my software last week. What happened? How can I get Yahoo Messenger again? I need it. Thanks.

Sometimes this happens when your network settings for DNS are not quite right, check you network settings with your ISP, especially the DNS setting, click on the settings control panel icon in your dock, then on network and verify you have the right settings. If this doesn't work also try re-downloading the yahoo application. This happens on mine from time to time, if I click cancel and connect again it normally connects.

Ok, have you tried any other apps that access the net besides safari? If so and they work you probably have a bad installer or a firewall that is blocking the port that messenger is using. What specific software did you update last week before it stopped working?

I just updated the usual update your software for Mac. Nothing unusual. I have tried the resetting of the network. However: I don't understand what this DNS (???) means? SO many acronyms and not understanding what this means. Could you please explain. Also, I don't know how to connect to another ISP.....I've always used Safari and I didn't have any problems before. Now, the image for other yahoo messenger users is "watery" I can't even view anyone without this horrible picture. I hope this has helped a little bit more to isolate the problem. I am getting upset and ready to return my mac products back to "apple", if this isn't resolved soon.

Well I will start with an explanation of DNS, it is domain name services, it is how your computer takes www.something.com and turns it into the ip address of the site you are looking for. ISP is your internet service provider, Safari is your web browser. They are totally different things, you would still use Safari regardless of who your ISP would be. I don't understand what you are saying about safari and the "watery" images, are you using safari to access yahoo messenger instead of the actual application?? Can you take a screen shot and send it to me?? You can either goto "application name" , services, screen capture. or you can use something like snapz pro. That will help me give you better advice.

Ok, got it. Safari is my web browser.....has nothing to do with my actual viewing of the "yahoo messenger" images that come across when I am able to view my friends cam. These Images come across as pale/watery/almost like they are washed out pictures, I see my friend move and do things, just the picture is not clear, again, like it use to be. So, I dont' know what's going on with my Yahoo Messenger That's why I know it can't be my Isight" cam from Mac. My cam just don't work at all. I have no images that come across when it says turn on my web cam. Total darkness. Nothing. I still don't understand this Domain Name Services. I don't have any problems accessing any WWW somethings.com. Don't know what that has to do with anything. I can download Yahoo messenger fine. Also, my ISP is "SBC Yahool" DSL. I've always used "safari" as my web browser. I don't get my service "interrupted" any other time, except when I am on "Yahoo Messenger" That is when I get Interrupted only. Something is going on with my Yahoo Messenger and I-sight Camera. I can't make it any clearer. Nothing else is going on here. Nothing is working like it was before last week. The Cam worked fine---Yahoo Messenger worked fine. Now my cam doesn't work at all & when I view my friends cam, it's the worse looking watery images I've ever seen. Do I need to take my cam back in and have someone at the Apple Store hook me up, or what?

Your problem is in yahoo messenger itself sounds like, have you tried to re-download the software from yahoo? You also should check and make sure you have the latest driver for your isight, goto www.apple.com/support and click on isight, though I do think the problem is in yahoo's software. If you have not updated it in a while there are known problems using an older version of their software. Also try something like trillian or fire which are multi-system messengers, they will work with aim, ichat, yahoo and msn. See if you have the same problem.

One other thing to try is to go into preferneces in messneger and make sure you check under the webcam section that your speed and size are reasonable for you internet connection. I have 8mb cable and have mine set for T1 or higher and the video set to large. If you have less bandwidth you might have to slow down that connection and video size.
