Hiya!!! When I attempt to view videos on sites like Youtube, the video's stall every 2-3 seconds and then start and then stall again. What do I need to do with my eMac memory/system so the videos will play without interuption to play??
Thank you!

Hi Mark,
Do you have the newest version of flash?
Here is the link to download it:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/downl...ShockwaveFlash
Also, what browser are you using? If you use Safari, check that you have version 3, if you use firefox you should have version 2.
Thanks,
Ferdinand

Thank you for the quick response! I have downloaded the newest version of flash, but my Safari is version 2.1 and the video still stalls. I am running OSX Tiger 10.4.2 as there seemed to be glitches with Tiger upgrades just after this that put me off upsetting the smooth running system I have now. Can I download a free version of Safari 3 without upgrading Tiger, or do I now have to perform a full system upgrade to pull everything into line?
I am not fully conversant with tech speak and don't want to mess up the
operation of my eMac if I don't 100% know what I am doing to good effect!
Thank you again for your advice!

I just checked, and Safari 3 only works for 10.4.9 or higher, so without upgrading it won't work. What glitches are you talking about? Since 10.4.2 there have been 8 versions, so the problem might be long gone by now.
Can you try watching Youtube videos on Firefox?
You can download it here:
http://www.getfirefox.com
Also, you could Repair Permissions to see if that helps.
To do this, follow these steps:
1. Open any finder window.
2. Click
Applications in the sidebar on the left.
3. Open the
Utilities folder.
4. Open the application called
Disk Utility.
5. Select your hard drive from the left.
6. Click
Repair Permissions.
Hope this will help,
have a good weekend,
Ferdinand

Hi again Ferdinand! Thanks for all your recent advice and I have used Speed Download 3 and spent 8hrs today downloading the latest Tiger upgrade via a dial-up connection. Now it shows finished in Speed Download, what do I do now to install/upgrade Tiger and will that upgrade include Safari 3.
Unlike the software upgrade system included with the eMac, Speed Download doesn't seem to automaically install the software. Is it quite simple to now get the latest Tiger up and running and how do I do it/what do I do next?
Thanks and I hope you have enjoyed your weekend also!

Sorry about this Ferdinand - us 'non-techies' can be a pain I know LOL, looking at the preferences for Speed Download, 'always prompt for download loaction' is not checked, is this why the download is complete but not installed/located???

Last one - to hopefully assist you more in helping me. The MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10PPCpkg 170.3MB update has been moved onto my desktop, so where do I place this now?
Thanks Ferdinand and I'm off to watch a DVD before I place it somehere I will regret! LOL

Hi Mark,
You can double-click the icon "MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10PPCpkg" and go through the installer clicking the "next" button, and then it will install 10.4.10. You need to restart at the end though.
Anoher tech wrote a note and since I'm not sure if you can see it or not, here it is again:
One of the reasons you may be experiencing slow video response could be your connection speeds. Video requires a fairly fast ISDN or better connection and ISDN is a little on the slow side..
You can also set up your Quicktime System preference to match your connection speed, this should reduce the number of breaks you get in your Video.
Another problem, especially with sites that stream large amounts of data, is that if enough people are watching the same files, then there will be a general slow down of the file being transmitted and it may not be your fault at all.
Hope the DVD was fun! What movie did you watch?

Ferdinand, I have completed what seems to be a succesful Tiger upgrade but after downloading Safari 3, the browser kept quitting before even opening???The dial-up net connection was succesful but I kept getting 'the application quit unexpectedly' pop-up so I have unistalled version 3 and reverted to version 2.04 until you can tell me what has possibly gone wrong!
Thanks for asking about the DVD and it was the directors cut of Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven which is a good film but definitely a little long. It's certainly no Gladiator!!!

I watched Kingdom of heaven about 2 months ago. I agree with you, its good but definitely too long. Whats the difference between the directors cut and the normal one? I didn't watch the directors cut, so I have no idea.
Ok, so back to business:
I'm just wondering what could be wrong with your version of Safari... I'm using it right now, and it's fine. Did you download version 3.0.3 directly from Apple? If you did, could you tell me what exactly you did after downloading it from the net? Thanks! Could you also open a normal QuickTime file movie (optimally a long-ish one). Does that play fine or also stall? If they don't, do you have Adobe flash player installed? Not the web-browser plug-in, but as a separate app.? If yes, open a .flv file with that app. If that doesn't stall that its a problem with Safari, If yes, then something's wrong with your flash player!
Here is the link to download the separate app. Adobe Flash Player Installer from my Public iDisk:
http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/F...cty=US&lang=en
Just click the little red arrow on the right to download it, and then use the installer.
Hope this works!

Hi Ferdinand and sorry about this! But I have been away from my Mac due to me cracking a toe and I now have to have it re-broken/pinned to straighten it! Ouch!!!! Anyway, I will come back to this Safari 3 issue again, but after starting to download jpeg attachments attached to incoming e-mails since I updated the opearating system, the images appear of the desktop as 'scure downloads' ???
When I try to open these images a pop-up appears telling me to select the HP Image Portal. What on earth is this and why all of a sudden have images coming in via Yahoo started to download this way. Oh my head hurts......and my toe!!! LOL
How are you by the way and any new DVD recommendations??
Mark
