PROBLEM: Software
COMPUTER TYPE: gateway
MODEL: II 300
RAM: 64meg
OS VERSION: Windows 95
SERVICE PACK: what is this??
DESCRIPTION:
Whenever I try to send email with an attachment that I zipped using Win Zip, the transfer (over phone lines) to my ISP slows to a dead halt and/or the entire system crashes.
I got smart and tried a different email package (was using Inbox/exchange, and I switched to Netscape). same problem.
I finally MacLANed the zip file to my Mac and passed it using Eudora pro. It worked fine.
Which of my mysterious PC settings is screwing up?
Wendy, welcome to Nowonder,
I am Nikorn and I will provide some comments rather than giving direct answer to your question (well, not enough testing to come up with a direct answer).
Please download the free Eudora Lite from
http://www.eudora.com and try sending from Windows PC. For serious emailing, I always use Eudora Pro 3.X. Eudora is slim and mean when compare to browsers with email capability. Its almost text like interface, and being a program designed for only one purpose, Email, make it work fast and easier to understand. People who use Eudora rarely ask following questions:
1. How can I backup my email files? Where are they?
2. How can I backup my Address Book?
If Eudora also fails under Windows, then we should be able to narrow down the search for cause of problem.
To avoid email related problem, avoid sending a single large attachment over 500KB. It is better to send several smaller attachments, one to each message. A lot of people might have only 1 or 2 MB of allocated email space. Once unretrieved messages use up the space, all incoming mail will bounched.
