I downloaded the latest security updates for my MAC OSX (I cannot remember what particular update it was) and after my laptop had rebooted, Safari (along with LimeWire and Acquisition) wouldn't work. It wouldn't even open. I'd click the Safari icon in the dock and it'd bounce once and then nothing would happen. I tried downloading Safari 1.2 again, but still it wouldn't work....

There is no Mac OS X spyware currently -- that's not to say that there ever will be, but for now, we're safe and your admin is mistaken (although it may not be wise to inform him/her in that way ;) ). Have you been running any network-intensive programs? BitTorrent? LimeWire? Acquisition? Perhaps he was detecting some Adobe application "phoning home?"

Since updating to OS X 10.3.9 i have been having trouble with receiving ftp files. Sorry, you're right. I have OS X.3.6 (Panther). iChat does support proxy servers. At my work, it is a HTTP proxy server with port 8080. However, it seems that some services might not work thru this port, since text chat works fine. Anyhow, it is quite bizarre that this same thing happens with Yahoo! Messenger (text chat works ok, but sending files might even hang the appz)....
