OpenGL - what's the point?

I have a vague interest in teaching myself some OpenGL (I can already program in Java, C, C++, Python, etc). What's the point of OpenGL? Is it only really for games programmers? More to my real point, when programming for other Mac users, what would be most useful/interesting for a programmer (working alone) to know? AppleScript (seems to be of decreasing...

Tiger as primary system: When?

When? Not yet. 8A323 is still too buggy/unstable for me to use day-to-day, even on non-critical stuff. There's also the brand new problem I have that I'm sure the tech reviewers will be complaining about: I just don't see a "killer" reason to upgrade. Spotlight will probably be nice, and the new Mail will help. iChat AV would be cool if I could ever get it to work with...

Appleworks 7 coming?

If Appleworks 7 is coming I'm not sure if it would be Cocoa but it would make sense. Cocoa has come a long ways in the last few years and pretty much dominates all these cool apps coming out today. Just supposing that Appleworks 7 had a Tiger version here are some things I can imagine seeing. Appleworks Tiger- Spotlight- Not only for finding your own user created docs but...
