I've found pre-binding and repairing disk permissions speed up my system. For those unsatisfied with speed go check out Cocktail. Remove caches, pre-bind, repair, run scripts. All that fun stuff. See if it helps.

I've seen it in cocktail, I've seen it on the Panther specs page, but I still don't know what it is. What is disk journalling, and why should I be concerned with it on an effectively single-user system?

There's a utillity called Cocktail that you can download that among other thngs let's you delete any file. I've used it to get rid of a number of files that were in the same state. ...

Cocktail isn't required to disable journaling. Simply launch Disk Utility in the Utilities folder, highlight the OS X partition (or whatever partition you want journaling disabled on) and go to the File menu and select "Disable Journaling".

The newest version of Cocktail, v3.0b1, will disable Journaling with no problem. But I would wait for Alsoft to release the update to DiskWarrior 3 before using it regardless. Norton's, wouldn't use this at all.

I know Cocktail (and other similar, free programs) can enable/disable journaling... I'm not sure how well they work in Panther though.

anyone else having this problem? i installed panther last night, and immediately opened font book and deleted their preset "sets" (didn't delete the fonts FROM fontbook... just the sets...) i have no idea if it was doing it before this or not, but now basically everything that was supposed to be "helvetica" shows up as "helvetica fractions"... i attached screenshots... any...

I'm not sure. MacJanitor still works for me on 10.2.8. Maybe you should try to Repair Permissions. If that doesn't work try to throw the MacJanitor prefs in the trash.
