In case you do not like to spend $28, for SuperDuper, tryrdiff-backup . I guess it does not make the disk bootable, and there is no pretty GUI, but are they worth the $28 ? But yes, I feel also that DVD is not good for full backup. I tried that on my PC, but it was hard.

The only disk utility I use part from Apple's own is DiskWarrior. It rebuilds the hard drive directory and fixes a lot of problems Disk Utility can't fix or doesn't even pick up. It has saved me from a HD reformat once which was worth every penny. ...
