You have had a gaggle of problems lately. Maybe a hard disk change would be a good deal. Whatever you decided to do just do a backup now. I say this because I now in my heart it is just a matter of time before that disk dies for good.

DiskWarrior saved my bacon. Apparently the drive is going bad (I got a message from DW saying so). Regardless, it recovered EVERYTHING. Can't praise it enough!

If this doesn't help consider getting the the best sick Mac utility called DiskWarrior. If DiskWarrior can't fix it, your looking at either a reinstall or a new hard disk. ...

I freed up memory, then used Diskwarrior to repair the hard disk, then did an archive/install of OSX 10.4, and the problem was fixed. Thanks for your help!

Yea, go to Maxtor's site and download the latest and greatest for Mac and that will help w/ sleeping issues. Not talking about Retrospect stuff. DiskWarrior is famous for its ability to bring back drives from the dead when no other utility, including TechTool, could do it.
