IMHO, you have a battery that is on the verge of going south. Some Macs don't like being run on just AC without the battery in place either. Have you run Disk Utility and/or, far better, DiskWarrior?

Often kernel panics are caused by hardware issues, such as bad RAM or a motherboard problem.
