Ok so I got my hands on a copy of Diskwarrior. I install it and crap but it says I can't fix the start-up disk and I need to boot into that CD. How do I do that? I go to System Prefs. and Start-up disk but the DW CD isn't there.

I have what seems to be all to often, the occassion to repair my OS X volume with Diskwarrior. When it completes its task, I'm messaged that I now have rescued files. When I look at those files they are named inodes. Can anyone tell me what inodes are? What do they do? What should I do with them. I get the feeling that my system is now missing important files. My system...

Try deleting one more file, Hard drive/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist. Drag it to the trash, then log out and in again. I don't suppose you have DiskWarrior? That's the only third party utility I use. I have only used it twice since buying it many moons ago but it reliably rebuilt my directory and fixed my problems on both occasions where DiskUtility and...
