eFax

Have you tried Cocoa efax? You can find it on versiontracker.

After one disaster with trying FaxSTF X, I was set to give up. BUT efax 0.9.0(though basic) actually works. Well enough. Check it out at http://www.macadvocacy.com/

There are two apparently modem-related devices in /dev: /dev/cu.modem and /dev/tty.modem. Perhaps one of these might work with efax? Note, however, don't try a 'cat /dev/cu.modem' in a Terminal, as the system will freak out for about a minute (iTunes stopped, nothing responded, etc), but eventually it came back...that time...

The advice given you is correct. To communicate via VAX, you must connect over a conventional analog telephone line. Alternatively, you may also use a commercial online FAX service such as eFax.

Wicky, I am with bobw on this. I personally use eFax for my company, and love it so far (about two weeks now).
