Have you tried exporting quark eps files and then distilling those through Distiller to PDF/X-1a? Q7 is probably adding something (transparency perhaps?) that is causing PDF/X-1a to error out, as it should since it won't create a pdf if there's a bad element in the file. Check your images; check your fonts; try the eps. Let us know what happens. Did you know that...

One of the Macs in my office has been experiencing very frustrating random program crashes for a while now: the designer will be working normally and suddenly the program (usually Photoshop or Indesign) will just crash for no apparent reason. I'd been happening with CS for a while; we recently moved to CS3 and they still happen with those versions. The OS is version...

If you had Distiller you could create eps or ps file and then distill that file to a pdf. Then you could see if it's your document or Mac OS X's print to pdf feature that's causing the security issue. ...

If you don't want people editing the text, you should convert it to outlines before exporting to PDF. What version of Acrobat are you using and exporting to? You can export each individual page from InDesign as an EPS. This will give you 204 files. If you store them in a folder, you can then go into Photoshop and choose File-->Automate-->PDF Presentation. Now you can...

Illustrator (.ai) is a pdf file, Adobe has moved on from .eps files. Everything is getting written in .pdf from now on. You can try printing it to pdf, that effects a change and may clear out what is at fault. Illustrator CS2 crashes a lot so I wouldn't go thinking that it is something you have done. However having said that it can be extremely picky with fonts,...

In OS9 one could easily print to a .eps file with or without a preview. The file would autmatically clip to leave a boundary box enclosing just the relevant image or text. For example, a small abstract typed in the centre of a single page in Word could be printed to a .epsf & the resulting file (containing just the text portion) placed in something like Canvas where it could...

Hi all. Hope someone can enlighten me with what's going on with my network... I have a small network comprising four G4's, with one G4 acting as a server. I ran this set up with Panther OS on all G4's with no problems for a couple of years but thought it time to get it all up to date - so installed Tiger on all macs. I have also put a new hard drive in the server G4 and...

No. When I created a new document and named and saved it for the first time I saved it as an Illustrator EPS as opposed to and AI file. The entire 8.5x11 document is itself an EPS, and everything inside of it was created using Illustrator tools. ...
