A 2.8MB pdf file, if it's graphically rich, is already pretty small. But, for best results I recommend using Tifs instead of eps files. Might give you some more room to reduce when you rip that pdf. ...

I have a 2.8 MB PDF that i created through quark. i'm unable to 'reduce the file size' from acrobat. it keeps saying that 'an error occurred while processing images'. all the eps files are illustrator eps's and not photoshop eps's (i think that quark and acrobat don't play well together with photoshop eps files). any suggestions?

This is exactly what's happening. Quark's been this way ever since I can remember.

I think the problem is that your printer isn't a PostScript printer: instead of sending the PostScript part of the EPS, QXP simply sends the preview image instead. Not that it would help to send the PS part though, since the printer can't handle that anyway. Try the PDF detour, I'm pretty sure it'll work.

Thanks elander. I actually don't have this problem printing from Illustrator, which is where I created the native .eps files. I know that I can print from elsewhere, but I would like to be able to print nice proofs from my printer before I collect and outsource a Quark job to a print shop. I actually JUST started using Quark and InDesign for layout. It's easy for me, but...

I have an Epson 1280 installed my eMAC. I am print sharing it with my G5. Although the computer is sending the files to the printer, the colors are off and the eps files are jagged...tif prints fine. Anytime I attempt to run the Epson Utility, it crashes the computer. ...

Illustrator is a single-page, vector editing program -- not a page layout program. You cannot have multiple pages in Illustrator. InDesign is a good page layout program, so yes, you would need to create/edit your artwork in Illustrator, save it in a supported format (EPS, AI, etc.), then use InDesign to lay out your page.
