I have a copy of WMVPlayer and it is by far the best investment you can make. Now I can watch 90% of WMV files perfectly in QuickTime, and websites with WMV files load just like QuickTime movies.

Ugh. Windows Media Player is always a headache on the Mac. The new installer doesn't install support for anything that was coded for WMP 6.3 or earlier. Chances are, your videos are encoded in the old standard. One other place i can suggest going is http://flip4mac.com/ and checking out WMVPlayer. mmh, costs though, and I've never (in all my years) had a need to play either of those formats, I'm thinking of Divx, Xvid etc. which have to be 'doctored' to play - no good for me. I simply could not use the huge collection I have without VLC, Front Row won't cut it - unless it can use third-party players?? Mr Cheese man, I'm thanking the cheese right now... ;-)

All you'd have to do is install Flip4Mac, a QuickTime plugin, and you can play virtually all WMV and WMA's.

when i try to play most WMV files, i get this: "the hardware license for this content is inconsitent" huh? i'm osx10.4.3 g4 15' and i have windows media player 9 i googled this problem, and got a thing called WMVplayer/ flip4mac -- doens't help. a lotta people seem to have this trouble. any of you guys/ gals know a fix..?

oblem here. i just upgraded from mac os10.3.7 to 10.3.9 on a g4 1.3 dual machine where everything was working just fine. wmv files play back with sound using the flip4mac workaround and quicktime, but you have to pay for that and it only works in safari, not firefox plus you have to download the files, so no plug and play. ...
