Is this since the OSX10.4.4 update? No problems on my machine Or have you used flip4mac, it has been fixed now to version 2.01, version 2.00 was causing quicktime7.04 crashes and I guess could do the same to iTunes. Just a thought ;)

What kind of video is it, i.e., what's its extension (.mov, .wmv)? MPlayer and VLC are great for older files, but they can't decode WMV3 (WMP 9) video, which makes them useless for newer movies. Flip4Mac's codec handles WMV3 video, though, as does Windows Media Player (although it sucks). Flip4Mac's WMV Player is really good.

OS X maintains a database, and updates its entry for each application whenever that application is moved. So when you install an application, it's added to the database. I just upgraded back to QuickTime 7.04 after downgrading to make Flip4Mac work. I upgraded to the latest version of Flip4Mac then let Software Update do the upgrade to QuickTime 7.04. ...
