Flip4Mac and VLC are quite different. The WMV player can play files that neither VLC nor WMP 9 for Mac can. The trouble is that it cannot play those files that WMP for Mac does play, and once it is installed it becomes the default player and you will not be able to play those files without disabling it somehow. PITA, but I still like WMV because it seems more Windows media...

I don't think you'd need QuickTime Pro specifically — just any application that can encode video with QuickTime. QuickTime Pro doesn't give you anything except an enhanced QuickTime Player. Something like QTAmateur or any number of other QT-enabled apps should do the job just the same. That is, unless there's something hard-coded into Flip4Mac's codec that makes it reject...

Basically, I'm trying to convert Movies that are idioctically in the '.wmv' file format, to any quicktime formats. So eventually I can add them to my ipod (with video). I've tried 'iSquint' for mac because it fast and free ( and I'm looking for that.). However, converting 'wmv' files is not so easy, I then had to proceed in downloading 'Flip4mac Trial Version' so that...

In MPlayer, get info on the movie, and see what codecs it uses. MPlayer and VLC can't play "WMV3" (Windows Media Player 9 video). Windows Media Player for Mac can, but again, not if it's copy-protected. You can also play WMV3 video in QuickTime using Flip4Mac's WMV Player component, but it can't handle copy protection, either.
