[HOWTO] get sound in Doom3/ Quake 4

Some users encounter this problem that there's no sound in these games. An error also says that OpenALL is not supported. A solution that worked for me was to go to Applications > Utilities and open Audio MIDI Setup. Once there, in "Properties For:" choose "Built-in Output." Then in "Audio Output" you'll see right by the "Format" 2ch-16bit/2ch-20bit/2ch-24bit. Choose...

GTA San Andreas prob.....

The simple fact is that kids frequently share games, and he obviously did not go out and steal the game or illegally d/l it. Since his problem is with his apple computer, I myself had no problem trying to help him. That is the main point i was trying to make... I apologize for complicating the situation. :)

My 100 IQ needs a little 120 IQ stimulation

Responding to MisterMe's question, I was staggered to discover that of the 18.6 MB hard drive space I have, I'm only using 5.6 MB and have 13 MB left over!!! I guess I shouldn't be surprised because I don't play games, and have no interest in photography. If I knew what I was doing, with all that space, I'd be in much better shape. I'm very impressed by your suggestions, but...

Play .apc files?

I took a look at those pages, but after reading that plus looking up the applications that were derived from ffmpeg, I do not see anything that says it can play .apc files, and the ffmpeg itself has to be compiled before one can use it. I do not want to get into compiling software, and there is no guarantee that it would work anyway, so I guess I am out of luck. Thanks for...

Play .apc files?

A quick post before I head out of the house! If the ".apc" files are the same as the "CRYO APC" format ("Audio format used in some games by CRYO Interactive Entertainment"), then it looks like FFmpeg may be able to handle them (see list of supported file formats). It may be worth looking at the OS X equivalent, ffmpegX.

Got Parallels and Win XP today / Go ahead and install XP via Boot Camp anyway?

Hi, I just got Parallels and Windows XP Pro Sp3. After reading the Parallels doc, I see that Parallels will run Win XP somehow off of an install via Boot Camp. Should I just go ahead and install Win XP via Boot Camp then? I figure that way, I can have Win XP two ways on my Mac -- either via a reboot or via Parallels. And if I don't like Parallels, I can just go with the...

QoS (Quality of Service) question for torrents/WOW

I don't know how QoS will apply to your small network, but, for bandwidth, you should be OK. Your main issue will probably be with the torrents, but you can set a limit on how much bandwidth they get from most torrent clients, also, some allow you to set times to torrent. Games, while not necessarily lightweight, don't put the same strain on a network as large downloads, or...
