Actually, Freehand was in Adobe's possession for a brief period when they acquired Aldus. I still have a copy of "Adobe Freehand". The box packaging had a brown outside wrapper on with the Adobe branding on it. Inside everything was "Aldus". Adobe only had the product for a very short time, as they were required by the terms of the acquisition to spin it off.

If I were you I would upgrade the video card in your G4. You will see a good jump in speed and the G4 will last real well at least for another two years, especially with Tiger coming out.

Hey everyone Im new here also. I have had my dual 1.25 ghz g4 mirror door mac since summer of '03. I want to use it for graphic design and 3d stuff. Mainly Maya. I use g5's at my school and thats where Im studying to be a 3D animator. Other programs I use are Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects and Final Cut Pro. I love my mac and will continue to be my primary...

dus' applications end up at Adobe after some time. PageMaker rather early, now FreeHand. And both products probably won't survive... I'm glad I'm on InDesign and Illustrator already. ...

e some of the capabilites built into Freehand that are missing in Illustrator. My hope is that they will add some of the features in Freehand that don't exist in Illustrator and add them in.... but some how i doubt Adobe will do it. ...

Hmm... I tried creating a new user in 8a425 to see whether that, too, would have that CS bug. Illustrator doesn't want to start there... I guess I'll really have to reinstall... ...

With any luck Adobe will resurrect the good bits of Freehand that Macromedia butchered with versions 10 and MX, and finally acknowledge that you simply cannot treat vector art editing the same way you do Pixel art editing (a la Illustrator). The potential for a Illutrator/Freehand hybrid is a tempting thought.
