hen i have it set to open iphoto after the import, which adds them to iphoto's library. the only thing there is then you have to delete the photo from the folder image capture copied it to. ...

You can also try using the "Image Capture" application instead of iPhoto to download photos from your camera. It may offer more features than what you're used to with iPhoto.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with the problem. I was thinking about using image capture, but I think it only imports one photo at a time, which is also annoying, and then I would move everything into iPhoto anyway. ...

I believe Image Capture (in your App Folder), will give you thumbnails of your camera card's pics that you can selectively download, versus the all-or-none option of iPhoto.
