That seems silly that you get iLife when you buy a new computer but if you restore it you've lost it. This might sound stupid, but what is contained in iLife anyway? I know iPhoto, but what else? To be honest I probably don't use those applications that much. Is there away to back up those programs like on an external HD before I wipe her and then add them back on?...

Also keep in mind that a Tiger or Leopard retail disk does *not* contain iLife, iLife's a separate package in retail. You got iLife with your computer, i.e. it was on the restore disk(s). I still don't quite understand whether Apple has a replacement program for those disks. How about asking Apple support about it? A call certainly won't hurt too much.

Forget about using DiskWarrior or any other tools for now. A clean install reformats the harddrive, anyway. Then update the system and...

More specifically: That iMac G5, if equipped with 1 GB RAM or more, makes a fine home user machine with Leopard, iLife '08, iWork '08 and some more software. Currently, there's almost *no* intel-only software. This will change with Mac OS X 10.6, of course, when PPC-Macs are deprecated. However: 10.5 will still be supported for some time, then.

When configuring the System Preferences Sharing Preference Pane I changed the Computer name to something manageable and then tried to change the Public folder name and create a Public Folder with that name. Instead of now being named "LLS-iMac G5's Public Folder", it is now merely called "Public Folder". Can the public folder be renamed to align with the computer name when...
